Mick Wright announces candidacy for Shelby County Commission

Pledges to work toward a SAFER, STRONGER, and SMARTER community

Northeast Shelby County, Tennessee – Mick Wright has declared his candidacy for the Shelby County Commission in District 3, which represents Bartlett, Lakeland, and parts of Raleigh. The primary election will be May 1 with early voting beginning April 11-26.

“I am pleased to announce my candidacy for the Shelby County Commission in District 3. I feel strongly that this part of the county needs an effective and vocal advocate who shares our values. Many challenges will come before us over the next four years, and I pledge to work toward a SAFER, STRONGER, and SMARTER community.”

Wright said improving public safety, strengthening the local economy, and supporting public education were his primary goals, while holding the line on taxes and spending. He vowed to carry forward the torch held by the current and former commissioners serving District 3.

The Wright campaign launched with a surge of support and momentum. Phillip Walker has been named Wright’s campaign director. Walker is the owner of Walker Law Firm, a local business in Bartlett, where he has been practicing law for nearly 32 years. He is also a graduate of the Leadership Bartlett program and a former board member.

Jason Sykes, who was voted Man of the Year in 2012 by the Bartlett Express, has been named as the campaign’s treasurer. Sykes has served as the President of the Bartlett Education Foundation and the Bartlett Chamber Foundation. He is also a graduate of Leadership Bartlett and currently serves on its committee.

“I am proud to have Phillip and Jason as members of our leadership team,” said Wright. “As a small business owner, Phillip brings an executive efficiency to the campaign. And Jason’s passion for our community is made clear by his involvement.”

The campaign’s leadership team also includes political activists with expertise in law enforcement, non-profit management, education, entrepreneurship, and community advocacy.

“I believe that the foundations of any thriving community are public safety, economic strength, and a great system of education. I look forward to running a positive campaign, meeting neighbors, and discussing ways to build a safer, stronger and smarter Shelby County.”

Wright, 39, is a marketing communications professional and a member of the PRSA – Memphis chapter. A 15-year employee of Youth Villages, he is also a member of the Memphis Runners Track Club and the Bartlett First Responders Monument Committee. He lives in Bartlett with his wife, Alison.
